Station randomly closes every few minutes / Station automatically exits without any warning

:writing_hand: Brief description of the issue

Every other week I run all my updates, and this last weekend something weird started happening with station.
It just closes every few minutes.
No error, no warning, nothing is popping up. Station just closes. Super weird. This is the first time I’ve ever had this problem with this app. (love it btw, keep up the good work)

I did a little digging to look for maybe some logs that I could read to see if there was any indication of what was causing it to close, but I haven’t found anything. Where are the logs hiding? Or are there not logs? If there are not, is there a way to turn on logs?

:warning: Mandatory details

  • :gun: Trigger — Unknown. My most-used apps are Google Chat and Gmail, so one of those is usually open when it closes. Sometimes it’s Google Calendar. Usually I’m not actively using station when it happens - I’m in another program entirely, doing something else, or not even at my computer. Actions I’ve been performing when this happens:

    • The computer is locked and I’ve walked away. Come back and it’s closed.
    • Writing an email in gmail (in station)
    • Writing an email in personal gmail (in firefox)
    • Reading a PDF in adobe
    • Editing a microsoft word doc
    • Watching youtube in firefox
  • :boom: Issue — Station is closing unexpectedly with no visible error message or popup.

  • :movie_camera: Explanatory gifs/pictures — I have no pictures because there’s been nothing to take a picture of. :[

  • :desktop_computer: OS version — Windows 10, (1803, latest updates)

  • :gear: Station version — 1.30.0

Stations closes whenever my computer goes to sleep

Hey @Ohzie,

Thanks a lot for this thorough report  That’s indeed really weird
I’m having a hard time reproducing this bug: could you send me diagnostic files so I can investigate further?

  1. Your logs
  2. Your Station database
  3. A screenshot of your activity monitor/task manager while Station’s running

Just send me those 3 by direct message & we’ll dig into your issues.

Have an awesome day!

Okay, so a few things:
Unfortunately the amount of data I can upload is limited because it’s a work computer with all my company data in it, so this will not be as helpful as I wish it could be, but here goes:

[error] Error: ESOCKETTIMEDOUT
at ClientRequest. (C:\Users\brian.henry\AppData\Local\browserX\app-1.31.0\resources\app.asar\node_modules\request\request.js:816:19)

at ClientRequest.emit (events.js:182:13)
at ClientRequest.EventEmitter.emit (domain.js:442:20)

at tryOnTimeout (timers.js:289:5)
at listOnTimeout (timers.js:252:5)
at Timer.processTimers (timers.js:212:10)

This error occurred a little bit before it shut down…pretty much every time.
I wasn’t sure what was causing it, so I just started removing apps one at a time, and it looks like I’m not crashing when I remove Google Chat. NOT hangouts. Hangouts is fine, and doesn’t break anything. Very specifically this is the Google Chat that comes with GSuite now. I’ll check back and update this ticket if I’m wrong and it shuts off again, but so far I’ve been going several hours with no crash so I’ll count it as a win.

I’m sorry again about not being able to upload my station database.
